Dominica’s government will implement an agreement with Caribbean company West Indies Power to develop the geothermal resource.

Reported locally, “Dominica’s government will implement an agreement with Caribbean company West Indies Power to develop the geothermal resource in the Soufriere/Scotts Head area, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit announced.

“It has been established that we do have geothermal resources in significant quantity in the Wotten Waven and Soufriere areas,” Skerrit said in his 2009-10 budget address. West Indies Power was awarded a license last year for Soufriere.

The prime minister also said work is well advanced towards the drafting of a national energy policy and sustainable energy plan with the support of the EU and OAS.”
