Vice: "Although Deep Earth’s 5 MW plant may seem puny compared with the gigawatts of wind power going up around the coun?try, it’s the first step to proving that geothermal is a viable contender for clean energy in Canada"
The Don A. Campbell Phase II geothermal power plant extension is one of five renewable energy projects currently under construction in Nevada. These five will eventually join 16 renewable projects that have benefited from GOE tax incentives.
The purpose of this RFI is to solicit feedback from industry, academia, research laboratories, government agencies, and other stakeholders on issues of cost and risk reduction related to geothermal exploration.
LA Times: "Geothermal energy is alone among the renewable energy sources that has “dispatchablity” -- the means to quickly ramp up power delivery during peak hours or scale back when the grid has excess."
The exploration will be done by the University of Hawaii's Institute of Geophysics and Planetology (permit pending) and it will take place across nine different agricultural zoned areas on the West Rift Zone of Hualalai.
Since hydroshearing uses water and a biodegradable diverter, unlike fracking that uses a variety of chemicals that are potentially hazardous, EGS will not be affected by the new laws looking to protect underground water.
