Way back in 1980′s, Geological Survey of India had installed a 5 kw binary geothermal power plant and a pilot scale cold storage plant operating on Ammonia absorption system. The work of Vijay Chauhan vindicates the studies done more than 3 decades ago. If Government of HP plans to do something about it, fine, otherwise for last 4 decades or so, in spite of knowing the potential of geothermal resources, no state has come forward with a clear policy of harnessing its geothermal resources. Three states, Andhra, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra had taken some initiatives, but apparently nothing seems to be happening. We still continue with the tendency of comparing apples with potatoes by comparing hydro power with geothermal energy.

Although orpower have continued support of the community in olkaria, recent support of conflict between communities leaders is posing danger in the area.
