Zorlu Energy's license amendment application for the Kilizdere 3 geothermal power plant into a solar-support hybrid power plant has been approved by EMRA.

The Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) of Türkiye has approved the license amendment that will convert the classification of Kizildere 3 geothermal power plant (GPP) to a solar power plant (GES)-supported hybrid power plant. After this approval, the installed power of Kizildere 3 GPP under license increases to 189.75MWe.

Zorlu Dogal Elektrik Uretimi AS, a 100% indirect subsidiary of Zorlu Enerji Elektrik Uretim AS, has developed a 24.75 MWe combined renewable power generation facility that uses geothermal as the main source and solar as an auxiliary source. This combined power facility has been integrated into the existing Kilizdere-3 geothermal power plant.

We had previously reported on the plans of Zorlu Energy to establish a 21 MW solar power plant in order to meet the domestic consumption of the Kizildere III GPP. After this project worth approximately 267 million TL (USD 13.95 million), there was no increase in the total electricity capacity (165 MWe) of Kizildere 3 GPP to be supplied to the interconnected system.

In the approved license amendment application, the installed power of Kizildere 3 GPP, which is 165MWe, will increase to 189.75MWe with the addition of 24.75MWe solar power plant (GES).

Zorlu Energy had also been granted a similar license amendment for the Kilizdere 1 geothermal power plant that increased its installed capacity from 15 MWe to 15.9 MWe.
