Several American nations have announced the creation of a new Clean Energy Initiative for the Western Hemisphere.

Chile has been selected to host the Third Ministerial Meeting on Energy and Climate to be held in October 2017, following an official statement released by Energy Ministers of several American countries at a meeting in Mexico, in a clear recognition of the country’s leading position in developing sources of Non-Conventional Renewable Energies (NCRE).

The Ministers of Energy from Mexico, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Peru, Panama and the United States also announced the creation of a new Clean Energy Initiative for the Western Hemisphere, aiming to collective work on doubling renewable sources such as solar, wind, small scale hydro power, sustainable biomass and geothermal by 2030, according to a statement from Chile’s energy ministry.

Areas of cooperation with other global and regional initiatives, such as governments, international organizations, private sector and civil society groups will be explored too. These results will be reported in the forum to be held in Chile in 2017.
