District heating project approved for Holzkirchen, Germany

New geothermal heating plant expected to save 50,000 liters of fuel oil and prevent the emission of 10,000 tons of CO2 per year. Drilling is scheduled to begin next year.
Local German news state that a new district heating project has been approved by vote by two-thirds majority of the Upper Bavaria – Holzkirchen Council. This project aims to build a new geothermal plant to supply the municipality with district heating. The municipality will be investing around 40 million euros. The geothermal heating plant will save 50,000 liters of fuel oil and prevent the emission of 10,000 tons of CO2 per year. Drilling is scheduled to begin next year.
The same source states that thanks to numerous projects in the region and with new 3D seismic surveys of the subsurface is well known to engineers and the exploration risk is therefore estimated at only 10 percent of the project.
