The new well reaches a depth of 5,700 feet following 3 months of drilling operations and it will be connected to the power plant around mid-August.

Good news from Hawaii where local news sources have reported that Puna Geothermal Venture has finished drilling an additional well at a depth of 5,700 feet after 3 months of drilling operations, said Mike Kaleikini, senior director of Hawaiian Affairs for Ormat Technologies, PGV’s parent company.

Connecting the new well to the power plant will follow and it is expected to be operational around mid-August.

According to Hawaii Tribune Herald, “the power plant is producing 26 MW of electricity. It has a contract with Hawaii Electric Light Co (HELCO). to produce 38MW.”

Ormat has been wanting to produce and additional 25MW in the area.
