AP Renewables awards EPC contract for Tiwi binary geothermal plant, Philippines

AP Renewables Inc. has awarded to Ormat Technologies and Desco Inc. the EPC contract for the 17-MW binary power plant expansion of the Tiwi geothermal site, Philippines.

AP Renewables Inc. (APRI), a subsidiary of Aboitiz Power Corp., has announced that the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract for the 17-MW binary power plant expansion of the Tiwi geothermal site in the Philippines has been awarded to Ormat Technologies Inc. (Ormat) and Desco Inc.

Groundbreaking for the project is planned for the 1st quarter of 2023 with completion by the year-end.

We had first reported on the planned expansion of the Tiwi geothermal facility earlier this year. Prior to the awarding of the EPC contract, APRI had already signed an agreement with the steam provider for the supply of geothermal brine for the binary power plant.

The two companies awarded the contract have long been partners of APRI. Ormat had also built and designed APRI’s binary power plant facilities in the Makban geothermal power plant. Meanwhile, Desco has been providing control and instrumentation materials and staffing services to APRI for 11 years.

“We are glad to move this project forward with partners we already know and trust. This collaboration will reinforce our commitment to providing much-needed Cleanergy to the grid,” said APRI President and COO Jeffrey Estrella.
