The Prime Minister of Dominica makes it clear that the geothermal project on this Caribbean island state will continue with so far more than $33 million invested in development.

As previously reported on ThinkGeoEnergy, the geothermal project in Dominica in the Caribbean is moving on despite news on French utility EDF supposedly stepping out of geothermal development on this island state.

So far the country has invested over $33 million and the Prime Minister makes very clear that his government will not “turn its back on the project”.

As for many island states that currently depend on imported fossil fuel for electricity generation, Dominica could “reap huge economic benefits. “If we are successful ..”, so the prime minister, (the project), that in itself would help transform the way of life of every single Dominican,” he argued. “It will cause there to be the kind of growth that we need to eliminate completely any form of poverty in the country. It will give you the fiscal space, it will give you the revenue that you looking for, it will give you the foreign exchange that you need to grow your economy. And our people will enjoy a better way of life and a better standard of living.”

There are though political voices in the country that ask for the project to be set under a re-evaluation with regards to cost. They also suggest the installation of a small pilot plant and the extension of hydro power generation.
