North America

Region Overview

As part of our geothermal energy research and coverage, the countries of the Canada, Mexico and the United States play an important role. Representing nearly as much as one third of global installed geothermal power generation capacity, the countries of Mexico and the United States have been key players in geothermal globally. Being one of the largest geothermal countries for a long time, Mexico has not seen a great growth in the last decade, while the U.S. has gradually grown even though slower in recent years and remains the largest country in terms of installed geothermal power generation capacity worldwide. Canada, while currently with no geothermal power plant, is seeing concrete development with several projects pushing ahead.
