Research opportunity – Geothermal modeling of Ferrara-Romagna Arc, Trieste, Italy

The University of Trieste in Italy has published a research opportunity on geological and geophysical modeling of a geothermal project site in the Ferrara-Romagna region.
The University of Trieste has published a call for a 12-month research opportunity at the Department of Mathematics, Informatics, and Geosciences as part of the project “Innovation in geothermal resources and reserves potential assessment for the decarbonization of power/thermal sectors (InGEO).”
The project, aimed at increasing the share of energy produced from renewable sources, intends to reconstruct the crustal and subcrustal structures of the area around the Romagna and Ferrara folds. The results will form the input of the thermal model and will contribute to the calculation of the deep geothermal energy potential of the area.
The deadline for the submission of applications will be on 20 January 2024. For further details on the applications, please contact Prof. Magdala Tesauro at mtesauro@units.it.
As part of the project, the research fellow will collect and interpret existing and acquired geological/geophysical data, in order to obtain a complete and updated database of geophysical and petrophysical data of the reservoir rocks and overlying sediments, useful for implementing a thermophysical model of the study area. The preliminary model will be integrated by the interpretation of the results obtained from thermal and mechanical experiments on rock samples from the study area.
The position is open to all graduates/PhDs in the field of Earth Sciences who have a good knowledge of tectonics, interpretation of stratigraphic data, well data, and data deriving from thermophysical experiments on rocks.
