With the operating license secured, the 4.2 MW Cingshuei geothermal power plant in Yilan County, Taiwan is ready to start commercial operation Nov. 23, 2021.

We previously reported on the imminent start of the first geothermal power plant on commercial scale in Taiwan. News from Taiwan are now reporting on the planned start for next week, Nov. 23, 2021.

The 4.2 MW Cingshuei geothermal power plant (also called Quingshui) is a private sector project having been granted the commercial license by county authorities in October 2021.

The plant will sell its electricity to state-run utility Taiwan Power Co.. The plant is owned in partnership of Fabulous Power Co. and Taiwan Cogeneration Corp. and was developed by Yi Yuan Co.

The initial investment was NT$ 765 million (approximately USD 28 million). The set up of the plant was concluded in September 2021 and the final license to operate was granted October 27, 2021. The plant equipment was supplied by Ormat Technologies.

On the site of the new plant was an initial small-scale geothermal power plant by Taipower which seized operation in 1993 due to technical challenges.

The plant extracts water at a temperature of 180 degrees Celsius from a depth of 1,200 to 2,100 meters.
