Tender – Drilling of geothermal research borehole in Krefeld, NRW, Germany
The Geological Survey of NRW has announced a tender for the drilling of a geothermal research borehole in the city of Krefeld in NRW, Germany.
The Geological Survey of North Rhine-Westphalia (GD NRW) in Germany has published a tender for the drilling of 1000-meter research borehole in the city of Krefeld in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), Germany. The borehole will be used to evaluate the geothermal potential in the region as part of a state-wide effort to explore the geothermal resources of NRW. The drilling is planned to start by March 2025.
The relevent document to participate in the tender can be accessed via this link. The deadline for submission will be on the 17th of September 2024.
The plan to drill a research borehole in Krefeld had been announced just a few months earlier.

The drilling is part of the comprehensive nationwide exploration and drilling program aimed at investigating the “Kohlenkalks” limestone layer in order to further explore the geothermal potential of the region. The formation has been identified by extensive preliminary seismic surveys that have produced promising results. The limestone layer is estimated to be at depths of 400 to 700 meters, with an estimated thickness of 300 meters. The borehole is intended to penetrate the limestone layer completely
The tender will have a second part, to be announced later, which will cover geophysical borehole measurements related to the geothermal exploration project.
