Service companies have improved geothermal drilling efficiency by optimizing drill bits, bottom hole assemblies (BHAs), and drilling fluids.

Advanced drill bits made from durable materials like PDC and innovative geometries increase penetration rates while reducing wear. Modeled BHA designs coupled with real-time monitoring enhance drilling performance and wellbore placement while minimizing non-productive time. Drilling fluids have been refined for better heat resistance, lubricity, and performance in high-pressure, high-temperature conditions. These advancements help operators drill faster, more efficiently, and at lower costs.

Armin Federico is an Operations Engineer at Altitude Energy Partners with extensive experience in the energy industry. He has held engineering and technical sales roles at other service partners, specializing in drilling optimization, formation evaluation, wellbore positioning, technical training and failure analysis. Armin also worked as a WellCon Drilling Engineer at Devon Energy, providing operational and technical support for real-time drilling services.. He holds a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin (2003).

Rickey Bird brings over 23 years of oil and gas experience to the table, seamlessly blending it with conventional geothermal expertise since 2011. Transitioning into drilling fluids with MiSwaco in 2013, he’s honed a knack for innovative solutions. Now with Sinclair Well Products since 2022, Rickey collaborates with operators and engineers, crafting cost-effective drilling fluid systems that boost well stability and performance. A seasoned pro with a passion for pushing the boundaries of drilling tech.

With a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines, Walker Olson has built a comprehensive career in drilling, specializing in geothermal and oil & gas projects. His work includes participating in key geothermal drilling programs such as Utah FORGE, Calpine, and Fervo, with upcoming involvement in OXY’s GLADE project. Now, as an Account Representative, Walker integrates his engineering foundation with a customer-centric sales approach, leveraging his analytical acumen to exceed client expectations
