Workshop: High-Temp. and Corrosion in Drilling and Production, Geothermal and Oil and Gas Synergies

A joint workshop by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and the Geothermal Resources Council (GRC) on High-Temperature and Corrosion in Drilling and Production – Exploring Geothermal and Oil and Gas Synergies has been announced.

A joint workshop by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and the Geothermal Resources Council (GRC) on High-Temperature and Corrosion in Drilling and Production – Exploring Geothermal and Oil and Gas Synergies has been announced. It will take place 21 – 22 Mar 2017 in the Courtyard Marriott Mission Valley in San Diego, California, USA.

Geothermal wells encounter a range of aggressive conditions including the saline and low pH of Salton Sea geothermal resource; acid gas containing wells at Geysers; and acidic two-phase fluids in Indonesia and The Philippines.  Aggressive, high pressure, high temperature, and corrosive geothermal resources encountered around the “ring of fire” and other hot spots such as Iceland and Kenya offer an analog to extreme conditions currently being faced in HP/HT oil and gas upstream Exploration and Production (E&P) projects. At the same time, there is a variety of advanced drilling, well completion, scaling and corrosion control technologies deployed in E&P that would be beneficial to geothermal applications. To tap into these natural synergies, SPE and GRC have teamed up to develop an Applied Technology Workshop on High-Temperature and Corrosion in Drilling and Production. This joint workshop will bring together researchers, engineers, and field technicians concerned with Upstream E&P, Corrosion and Scaling, and Geothermal Energy.  Exploring themes common to these related fields through case studies and applications, this event hopes to improve the ability to develop downhole resources safely and efficiently.
